Some bland pics on my Flickr page.

God, my feet hurt yesterday.

Breaking your camera

Published by Paul under Photography

Make a fisheye lens with your old glasses lens.

I don’t think I have an old pair of glasses lying around, but I’ll have a poke about and see if my old emergency set is sitting in a box somewhere.

And, make your bokeh funny shapes!

This one is so ripe for experimentation…

Looking ahead

Published by Paul under Photography

I just uploaded a few new pics to my Flickr account, just kind of clearing the slate before we head up north (July 2nd). Frankly, I can’t wait. I haven’t had a ‘real’ holiday for years. Sure, I’ve had half a week here, or a long weekend there, but a couple of weeks away? I think the last time was in 1994, which didn’t end so well. :)

I also noticed that I’ve been blogging for nearly 3 years, although without a fraction of the class of Crumpet, or Vetti. I wish that was something I could improve, but I’m not sure my life is that interesting. I’m not sure how many people want to read about my day of troubleshooting a rubbish Pentium 4 system with a bad motherboard.

The flash

Published by Paul under Photography

I picked up the new flash yesterday. I’ve been so utterly swamped with work (doing a week’s worth of hours in three days) that I’ve barely had time to look at the manual, let alone use it.

However, this is what it looks like on the camera:

And here’s what an indoor shot can look like when you’re not using the flash built into the camera:

I bounced the flash off the roof for this one. Probably should have used a wall instead, it’s a little dark for my liking. Still, far better than the ‘deer in headlight’ look of an onboard flash, and something that I could fix in post if I really wanted to.

Notice the light in Crump’s eyes, I used the built-in catchlight for that.

Flashy

Published by Paul under Photography

It’s taken a while, but the 580EX II flash is finally available in Australia. I’ll be ordering one (or maybe picking it up) tomorrow, to give me time to get used to it before I shoot Emma’s wedding.

Busy-ness

Published by Paul under Photography

Apologies to the three people that have been following this blog waiting for something to be written - it’s been a busy couple of weeks.

I’m dropping this link here for Crumpet and myself - it explains how to get pretty star trail exposures, which we want to try in the Northern Territory. Crumpet tells me the Wadeye sky is starrier than the starriest sky I’ve ever seen.

I did something first!

Published by Paul under Photography

I was first to post my B picture - because I wasn’t supposed to yet. Still, go check it out. I think it’s quite pretty.

It’s here!

Published by Paul under Photography

As Crumpet has more free time than I do (because she’s lazy), you should go to her blog post and sign up for the astounding Alphabet Shoot competition!
