As a beta tester, let me tell you, Home is a disaster of monumental proportions. Imagine the least fun online experience imaginable. You’re thinking of Second Life, right?
Okay, now take that thought and improve the graphics, but give your players nothing to do whatsoever. Also, if there could be lots of loading in between areas, that would be awesome.
The people at Microsoft’s Xbox division must be crying with laughter when they think about Sony’s online ’strategy’.
I’ve been holding off on buying Fallout 3 for several reasons but mostly because I’m still getting my head above water financially (but I’m doing a lot better now, honest!).
The second-highest in the list of reasons is the general consensus that the PS3 version of the game is somewhat broken in comparison to the Xbox 360 and PC versions. I don’t have a 360, and I really can’t see myself sitting in front of a computer for 100 hours of gaming, so I’ll wait for a patch.
I have a good reason to wait for that patch now. If I buy the game and start playing without trophy support, I’ll have to restart the game when they patch it in.
I’m very impressed by the demo of Eternal Sonata on the US PSN store (ya boo sucks to you if you’re too lazy to create a US account).
It feels like a more strategic version of Final Fantasy 7, with location tactics in battles (your characters and enemies have different abilities depending on whether they’re standing in light or shadow) and avoidable enemies when you’re not in combat. Also, it looks just a wee bit stunning.
It’s coming at the end of the month for the PS3 (and is already out for the 360). I will be flat out with LittleBigPlanet and Fallout 3, so I’ll pick it up as a Christmas present to myself.
If you never played Fallout 2 (who could I be looking at here, I wonder), here’s your chance. A site called Good Old Games is in the middle of beta, and once it’s done there will be XP/Vista-compatible versions of the entire Fallout series (plus a bunch of other excellent classic games).
Last chance to sign up for the beta! It expires tonight.
I finished Grand Theft Auto 4 today. I did the typical thing for me, I played the game obsessively for about 40 hours (um… not in a row), and then got stuck very close to the end. When I get stuck for more than an hour on a game, I usually put it aside and then forget to go back to it for months, if ever (I’m looking at you here, Assassin’s Creed).
Not this time, though. I picked GTA4 up again, remained stuck at the same point for another couple of hours and then finally broke through and won. After the credits rolled I decided to try the multiplayer, which I’d heard was good, but got bored with it after two minutes or so. I don’t know… I just can’t find anything exciting in shooting people over the internet. I’m sorry, Team Fortress 2… it’s not you, it’s me.
I’m kinda interested in finding out more about Ron Gilbert’s new game, DeathSpank, which is described as a cross between Diablo and the Monkey Island series.
Speaking of which, here’s a US presidential candidate I could get behind:
A really sweet audio interview with the 4th Ed D&D designers here. They seem switched on and responsive to feedback - I have high hopes for the future of 4E.
