I have to say, after downloading the demo for “The Darkness” yesterday I actually support something like this.
I’ve been playing computer/video games for 20 years or so now and am hardly anti game violence… but a game that advertises being able to mutilate enemies as something that’s just awesome? I was pretty disgusted to be honest. I didn’t even get as far as trying the gameplay after watching the intro trailer.
Heh, I bought that game purely because I liked the demon arms.
The issue isn’t that there is violence in games, it’s that we don’t have an 18 rating for games in this country, unlike films. Therefore, any game that would need to be 18-rated in Australia (eg. GTA4, Fallout 3) is banned or censored, which is ridiculous.
The entire thing is being blocked by the South Australian attorney general, who seems to think that games are only for children and is refusing to allow grown adults to play the same games that are acceptable in the US and Europe.
Yup, good story (I seem to recall you claim to like that), and I liked the idea of a first person shooter where YOU were the scary thing, instead of all these survival horror games that unnerve me too much.
Of course, there’s a level where you go to this hell-place which scared me too much, so I put it aside for a while. I’ll get back to it one day.

You seriously bought that game?
I can’t believe someone I know actually would…
