Unwell

Published by Paul under General

I left work early today, got straight into bed and passed out until 7pm. I have some weird sinus thing that is doing my head in. I’m hoping that watching the latest Top Gear will make everything all right.

Fuck

Published by Paul under General

This is a really shitty month for people dying.

Farewell, Rufus. I really appreciated your comedy. You and Bill Hicks, man. You were the greatest, and you’re both gone.

Good Enough for me

Watch this clip and compare it to the current batch of pop singers - do any of them come this close to the album live?

Uncivilised

Published by Paul under Gaming

I’ve been having a lot of fun fiddling with the Civilization Revolution demo in the last couple of days. I’d guess that most PC gamers have played one of the Civs back in the day, but I only ever played Colonization back on my Amiga. My recollection is that I loved it, so I’m not sure why Civilization passed me by.

In any case, the CivRev demo is out now for PS3 and Xbox360 and gives a good taste of the game. There’s enough time for you to start being unruly - I created a bunch of catapults and destroyed Athens - but not enough to truly start getting into the diplomacy and trading aspects. There’s help available (with Sim-style advisors yammering away), but I’m going to need the manual to completely understand the workings of the turn system.

I’ve already pre-ordered the game (from Play Asia as Amazon won’t take my money for electronics or games) - if you happen to have the PS3 demo, get in touch and we can try out the multiplayer?

Stupid spammers

Okay, my ‘you don’t need to register and be logged in to comment’ experiment has failed. The spam is coming too fast for me to want to deal with, so the restrictions are back in place. Log in, or comment ye not!

Farewell Stan Winston

Published by Paul under Film

I tweeted about this yesterday, but Steve is not down with the twitter, so here’s a redundant followup.

Seeya Stan, you enriched the childhood of every boy and girl that grew up in the last three decades.

edit: Fixed a broken tag that ate half the post. :)

Stop laughing, Paul!

Seriously, stop being such a child.

Now wipe those tears away and get back to surfing the net!

I hurt

Published by Paul under General

I spent all yesterday lifting boxes and bending into weird positions to get cables and machines out of them. I felt okay yesterday night but this morning, it feels like something’s come loose inside my chest and it’s constantly jabbing at me.

Being old sucks.

The Coward *mumble mumble*

Published by Paul under Film

It’s crazy, I can’t tell Casey Affleck and Jake Gyllenhaal apart - have they ever been seen in the same room at once?

Roger Deakins is still a god.

Dead Wrong

Published by Paul under Film

Just when I think I’ve found my soulmate in a reviewer, Roger Ebert proves himself an unworthy partner with his review of Dead Man, which I showed Crumpet this evening.

I was sure Crump had seen it before, but it turns out I was wrong… and it’s been far too long - I love this film.
