[12:46] APM: flying penis fills you with joy?
[12:47] Paul Dossett: no, the fact that somebody said, ‘you know, it would be totally awesome if i built a flying penis’
[12:47] APM: there’s a sequence of comments that reminds me of old mordi quotes :)

This will only make sense to old Cold Fury members. And I don’t care.

Iron Man

Published by Paul under Film

Watched Iron Man last night. How entertaining was it seeing every single person besides Crumpet and I leave during the credits, so that we and we alone got to enjoy the very final bit of the film? Quite a bit!

Good movie too; I’ll be picking it up on Blu-ray if Paramount do a good job with the extras. RDJ commentary track, please!

Game (most definitely) On

Published by Paul under Gaming

My imported, uncensored version of GTA4 arrived today. Sorry Crumpet, you’re going to have to put up with me accidentally running over hookers tonight.

Argh – The Movie

Published by Paul under General

Don’t expect to see much from me online outside business hours. Our churn to Supernerd (or as I’ve lovingly started referring to them, ‘Supershit’ or ‘Superuseless’) has kind of gone through, but they can’t tell me what our new phone number is.

This has two effects:

a) I can make a phone call, but I can’t receive one.
b) Even though I believe my DSL modem is seeing an authentication server and attempting to create a PPP connection, I can’t supply the required username and password as they contain the phone number!

I’ve called Superuseless twice now, and both the tech support and accounts departments tell me that our number is still the one that we had on Telstra. I’ll call them again tonight and see if their story has changed, and if they repeat it I’ll ask them to call me on that number and see if I pick up. :)

I’ll circulate the new number once I finally know what it is. Until then, enjoy your connection to the outside world.

Oh, I’ve removed the Twitter updates from the page as well, as Twitter is down more often than not, and it slows my site down. If you want to see what I’m up to on Twitter, please visit http://localhost – you’ll get much the same result as you do from the Twitter site right now.

Productive

Published by Paul under Film

I spent a fair amount of today raising the shelf for our projector about two feet higher and moving the front presence speakers behind the couch to form a 7.1-channel system. Well, a 7.0-channel system to be honest – I still don’t have a subwoofer (that’s my project for next year).

Ironically, having the speakers behind us means they’ll actually get far less use, as they only activate when playing a 7.1-channel mix. That means they’ll never work on a DVD or any other 5.1 source, only certain Blu-ray titles. And… I’m okay with that.

The holes I’ve left in the wall… I’m less okay with. My project for next week is filling and painting over them.

I also calibrated the projector with a disc that APM lent me. I discovered something I’d already read – the Sanyo is not 100% accurate in the green channel, but it’s not something that I can notice in normal viewing.

Theme fall down go boom

Published by Paul under Geekery

Note to self: Don’t upgrade Wordpress at work. Things invariably go wrong. Enjoy the CRAZY THEME until I get some time to fix things. :)

Oh, and Steve should be super-excited to know that I took photos on the weekend.

I just added my recent Twitter posts to the left sidebar. It will work.. most of the time. Twitter isn’t the most stable thing around.

Random rental thoughts

Published by Paul under Film

For some reason, Quickflix is sure that I will enjoy The Fast and the Furious – Tokyo Drift. I would be willing to wager a considerable sum that Quickflix is wrong.

Quickflix has also let me down – William Friedkin’s Sorceror is unlisted. Granted, it’s also not available in Australia, but that’s not my concern – it’s readily available in the US.

Tonight I’ll watch The French Connection, probably by myself. I’ll start on The Tudors over the weekend.

What have you rented lately that excited you?
