I love PCs

Published by Paul at 8:01 pm under Geekery

I was just installing drivers for a new motherboard, and saw a fairly typical PC message. The driver CD started up and gave me the options of installing several drivers (sound, video, etc), and I chose ‘One-Touch Setup’.

The disc told me ‘You need to install the chipset drivers first. Do that, then choose the One-Touch Setup’.

Um. How the fuck is that ‘one touch’ exactly? Would it really have been hard to integrate the chipset driver install into the setup? I truly hate the PC world. AND YOU PEOPLE PUT UP WITH THIS SHITE!

I just installed Windows on my shiny new MBP. Parallels did it all fancy for me in only a couple of minutes. I rock.

Gizo, I have parallels but that’s it. Where do I go from here? Do I need to install windows in its own virtual drive or partition?

You can do either. If you use Bootcamp, Parallels can use that install, so you can reboot to play games (or do other things that require better hardware support than Parallels has right now), or you can just run a Windows app in a window right next to your OS X apps (for web design, for example).

We put up with this shit because we have choice ;) I can build my own pc with whatever components I want to use from whichever vendor/store at the price that is most competitive.

Just because some shitty vendor has a shitty driver install for their shitty products it doesn’t mean that the whole MS world is broken, just that some parts are shitty.

So what, guys. You wanna geek yr lives out building PC’s, go for it.
I want a computer that all works nicely out of the box, that the OS doesn’t have any issues with, as does the majority of the population.
    You are a minority.
(Yes, I do realise that Paul, red5 (Steve?) and I are also a minority - but probably not the Marysville kind)

Yes, let’s not talk about Marysville again.

And yes, Steve here and I agree, it has unix, it works, it has aperture, it rocks, it has other cool stuff. I’ve hardly touched my PC of late other than having to use one at work, and even then it runs Putty fine to connect to a real machine. :P
