Just a quick note really.. I’m here, I’m alive, I finally have some time to myself after a fairly frantic fortnight followed by a back strain incident that left me pretty much incapacitated for five days.
I got some more music done - there’ll be a new song uploaded fairly soon. It would have been done today but it was too cold to play bass properly (that or I truly suck at it). Also, the rather marvellous Joel and I went halves on a classic Sennheiser mic, the MD-441U. It’s just peachy. I recorded some vocals with it and think they sound reasonable considering how long it’s been since I sang properly. I had a small issue with closing my eyes as I sang, rocking too close to the mic and overloading the preamp, but you get that when you’re a rock god, right?

It’s been a while since I posted something cute just for the sake of it, so I give you KITTEN vs FRONTROW. Enjoy.

I guess it must have been a while since I listened to all the songs I have on the PowerBook half-finished. I copied them across to the iMac tonight and found a couple of bass parts that I barely remember recording. The StingRay sounds utterly beautiful. I’ll try to get a song or two finished soon.

You guys had better appreciate how much tidying up I had to do to take these photos…
Here’s the iMac in position. As you can see, Logic Pro handily makes use of the screen real estate. It’s really nice to be able to see all the windows I need without moving them about.

Here’s the PowerBook, feeling rather jealous and inferior. It’s on top of the Traveler (which is being driven by the iMac into the monitor speakers - one of which can be seen here). Hiding in the back is the new LaCie firewire drive, which holds my recordings and a few games.

I bought this USB hub/media reader to handle all the extra gear that I’m using. It will also read cards from Crumpet’s camera and the Canon 30D I plan to buy later this year.

And look! A ‘free’ printer that came with the Apple protection plan! I only got it because it’s a scanner as well.

On Monday I decided to upgrade Logic Express to Logic Pro. I had to do something, as the new iMac has an Intel chip, meaning that it won’t work with my PPC copy of Logic Express. I could either crossgrade to the Intel version of Logic Express ($75) or fork out a grand for Logic Pro and all the extra features… naturally I went for the features. Hurray for credit!
These shots are from the iMac’s built-in camera, by the way.

And isn’t it just beautiful…

It’s the 20″ iMac with a 2Ghz Intel Core Duo chip, an ATi Radeon X1600 with 256Mb of VRAM, and a 250Gb HD. Currently it’s only packing 1Gb of RAM, but I’ll fix that in the next week or so. Right now it’s purring like a kitten. If you have the means, I highly recommend picking one up.

I’ve been busy as a dog with two bottoms this week (or something)… barely had time to scratch myself, let alone blog about my scratchings. Today was the first day I’ve had to myself in a while, so I got some recording done (yes, Justin, I’ve been working on the song for ya!) and I think I’ll have some more time tomorrow!
Hurray for time.
