Travelling…
I’ve had a bit of time to play with the MOTU Traveler. It’s quite amazing. My Alesis monitors sound 100% better than they did when I was driving them with the PowerBook’s headphone output (not surprising really, as a headphone output is the wrong impedance and level!). All my mixes now show every fault clearly and I’m going to have to remix them all. Doing that should get me quite acquainted with Logic. Yes, it’s intimidating.
One thing that really impressed me is how OS X deals with the Traveler being connected/disconnected from the PowerBook. Rather than complaining that a device has been found or removed (what OS does that sound like, I wonder), it quietly changes the default inputs and outputs to match those that I selected in the Audio MIDI Setup application. I have it set to route all audio except alerts to the Traveler when it’s plugged in, and everything reverts to the built-in speakers when the Traveler disappears. Slick, seamless and virtually instantaneous.
I’m getting more used to Logic, and I think I’ve come up with some verse melodies for some stuff Giz and I recorded a while back (including a song I’d forgotten about). I’ll see how I go at recording tomorrow. ![]()
