Pants in Motion

Good golly, did I get a lot of packages today. First off, the laser printer I ordered last week which mysteriously vanished somewhere in TNT’s system (necessitating several peeved calls from Crumpet and myself) finally showed up. It’s very, very awesome. Making up for the delay was the fact that we’ve been sent the network version of the printer (which costs another $150) by mistake.

I was amused by the installation instructions. The Windows page contains 26 separate steps to get the drivers up and running. The Mac section says (and I quote), ‘There is very little required setup for Macintosh printing’. No shit. I plugged it into my switch, opened the Printers preference pane and clicked the ‘Add’ button. The printer appeared, and worked immediately. Can’t complain.

At around 7pm another delivery truck arrived, bearing my new copy of Logic Express, which I ordered from Apple at about 2pm yesterday. Fucking excellent delivery time, and something TNT could learn from (Apple use StarTrack Express, which is part of Aussie Post).

I’ve been told that my MOTU Traveler should be shipping to me today or tomorrow, so with luck I’ll have it by the weekend. I bought some balanced cables to hook it up to my monitor speakers and also grabbed another couple of guitar stands so I didn’t have to keep taking guitars out of their cases. I’m planning on getting a cheap desk to use purely for music, leaving my game box on the current desk. Moving gear around is just another annoyance that makes it easy to put off recording.

And speaking of gear, I’m also planning on getting one of the new 20″ iMacs purely as a recording box. I think it’ll be a much nicer environment than a laptop, especially with a wireless keyboard/mouse setup so that I can control Logic from across the room.

I’ll definitely be uploading some older tracks to the Toshiro site tomorrow night. Crumpet will smack me if I don’t!
