Deliveries, deliveries…

Published by Paul under Geekery, Macs, Music

Good golly, did I get a lot of packages today. First off, the laser printer I ordered last week which mysteriously vanished somewhere in TNT’s system (necessitating several peeved calls from Crumpet and myself) finally showed up. It’s very, very awesome. Making up for the delay was the fact that we’ve been sent the network version of the printer (which costs another $150) by mistake.

Potentially interesting

A site that I plan to mention to a few friends is AWAL (Artists Without A Label). It’s an aggregator site designed to allow independent musicians to get their stuff onto the iTunes store without signing away their IP rights. The site is unfortunately down at the moment, but their UK site is still up. They take no upfront fee, only 15% of your royalties, which sounds reasonable assuming that you don’t lose anything else in the process.

I just checked the Apple trailers site. Dear Lord, look at all those high-definition trailers. I’ve been used to seeing the same old 8 to 10 trailers, but there are 28 of the suckers at the time of this posting, including ones for Harry Potter and King Kong. My bandwidth-consuming senses are tingling!

Noooooooooooooooo!

It’s been 17 months of daily use for my trusty little iPod, and today it just seemed to say ‘enough is enough’ - I can hear the tiny hard drive inside clunking occasionally. I bet it’s a bloody Hitachi drive - my laptop drive died in exactly the same way. I’ve reformatted the iPod and it seems to be working again now, but I know it’s just a matter of time before the drive dies completely. Luckily Christmas is coming up, and those 30Gb iPods with video capability are looking very tempting!

There’s still some weirdness associated with Tiger even after the 10.4.3 update.
